Stop the presses because Hollywood’s favorite redhead, Jessica Chastain, may be joining the X-Men franchise! If the deal goes through and she does sign on, she will be playing Lilandra, Empress of the Shi’ar Empire, an alien race that wants to destroy the Phoenix Force. Chastain would be joining Hollywood heavyweights that have branched from their usual drama films to play within the comic universes. The latest (and most famous) on the trend is legendary actress Cate Blanchett, who can be seen in November in Thor: Ragnarok as Hela, the ruler of Hel and Niflheim.

Chastain had expressed interest in playing a character within the superhero universe, with many suspecting she could be signing to play Poison Ivy, even if there was no evidence circulating to put weight on the rumor.

In addition, it seems as though the folks at Fox have reunited, once again, with their writer and producer for the next installment of the X-Men franchise. Simon Kinberg has officially signed on the dotted line to direct and write X-Men: Dark Phoenix. The continuation of the story will also bring back the original cast, including James McAVoy, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult, and Jennifer Lawrence. It will also feature the cast of X-Men: Apocalypse including Sophie Turner (Jean), Alexandra Shipp (Storm), Kodi Smit-McPhee (Nightcrawler), and Tye Sheridan (Cyclops).
X-Men: Dark Phoenix is set to open in theaters in November 2018.
