In an interview with Playboy Magazine, Dunkirk director Christopher Nolan said he would love to direct a James Bond movie, but don’t get too excited just yet. He states the film would have to need him and it would be an entirely new thing.
“A Bond movie, definitely,” Nolan told the magazine. “I’ve spoken to the producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson over the years. I deeply love the character, and I’m always excited to see what they do with it. Maybe one day that would work out. You’d have to be needed, if you know what I mean. It has to need reinvention; it has to need you. And they’re getting along very well.”
Christopher Nolan knows all about a franchise needing him, as it was thanks to his artistic view that Batman once again came into a good light and with more depth than we had seen the films before. He knows how to take a film and make it into something other than just a running time of two hours. What Nolan could do with Bond boggles the imagination, but it would have to wait until Daniel Craig is out of the running or they decide to reboot the series. As we all know, it is rumored that Daniel Craig could be back for another Bond film, even though he was reluctant to sign on again.
You can catch Nolan’s latest effort, Dunkirk, in theaters July 21st in the USA and July 20th in the Caribbean.
